If Danny O'Brien been able to plan Grinzinger Star's seven days leading into the South Australian Derby, he probably wouldn't have scripted what the ever-improving stayer has experienced.
After a severe buffeting on the home turn at Flemington last Saturday, in what was his final lead-up run, he then came up with 14 when the barriers were drawn for this weekend's race.
O'Brien confessed to being mildly concerned at seeing what unfolded last Saturday but had been put at ease by his condition in the days since and was not overly fussed by drawing in the second half of the field.
"He's a tough horse, so it didn't really knock him around," he said. "It obviously wasn't ideal last weekend, but he's to turn up in good shape for us on Saturday.
"I don't think the barrier will worry him. It's a 2500-metre race and he'll be in the back half of the field anyway, so don't think it'll be a problem."
After holding down the third line of Derby betting before last weekend's race, Grinzinger Star is out to $13 in BetEasy's market, with last weekend's dual Group 1 winner, Damien Oliver, going back aboard."
"Fantastic to see the talented performer #MainStage return to the winner's circle at Sandown today for Busuttin Racing and his owners.
A stakes winner at Flemington last season Main Stage kept up a solid run of form for his sire #ReliableMan who has had a host of winners in recent weeks.
Main Stage was taken back to last by Michael Walker and was still last with 300m to run, but the gelding let down like the Main Stage of old when asked to quicken, going on to defeat the imported gallopers Master of Wine and Latin Beat."

Trifecta for Reliable Man
Great result for #ReliableMan in today's A$135,000 ATC Heritage Tours Handicap over 1800m at Randwick with his three runners in the race - #Nobu, #Ombudsman, #DuchessofLennox - filling the first three placings.
All three came from the powerful Chris Waller Racing which was very fitting with Reliable Man also trained by Waller when trained in Australia.
Nobu sealed a Queensland trip with a strong win, coming from the tail to win with plenty in hand for top hoop Tommy Berry. The inexperienced Duchess of Lennox ran home strongly in her first city outing, and Ombudsman battled on strongly for third.
The dominant nature of Nobu's winning performance today says he is right at the top of his game and will be force to be reckoned with in his Queensland assignments.
Viva Gloria was just a short neck to be 2nd or 3rd in the Groser Preis von Rossmann yesterday in Hannover.
A LISTED race run over 1600 meter. Viva Gloria finsihed a very very close 4th.
He has previously also been 4th in his 2 earlier starts. First time out was in September at two.
Well done to Man in the Moon, who took home the 2100 meter 3-Årsloppet at Bro Park on Sunday.
Man in The Man is 3 year old.
